Report On Formation Of Integrity Index To Be Ready Soon

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12 (Bernama) — The formation of the National Integrity Index (NII), which will act as the benchmark in assessing the level of national integrity, is still being studied and its report is expected to be ready soon, said Malaysian Institute of Integrity (MII) president Datuk Dr Sulaiman Mahbob.

“At the moment, the MII needs to complete the study on the formation of the index with the cooperation of several local universities and the Statistics Department,” he said.

The setting up of the index was proposed by the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Samsudin Othman, which would encompass all strata of society including public and private sector employees, families and students.

Dr Sulaiman said the study had to be carried out before an index that could gauge the level of national integrity could be established to ensure there would be no problems subsequently.

He said this to reporters after the prize giving ceremony for winners of the essay writing competition on integrity at the secondary sechool level, here today.

Also present at the ceremony was Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk Khamsiyah Yeop who gave away prizes to the winners and launched the book “Essays On Integrity 2005″.

Commenting on the essays on integrity which were introduced in schools, Dr Sulaiman said it was an effort at familiarising the young generation on integrity as a positive value.
