Thieves broke into the bungalow of Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) director-general Datuk Kheizrul Abdullah, escaping with cash and valuables worth RM1 million. The break-in is believed to have taken place between midnight and 7am last Sunday, while Kheizrul’s two children, aged 19 and 25, and a maid were asleep in the house on Jalan SS1/11A in Kampung Tunku.
At the time of the incident, Kheizrul and his wife Datin Anisma Ahmad were in Manila, attending an official function.
A relative, who did not wish to be identified, said the maid discovered the break-in the next day.
“She spotted the window of the master bedroom prised open. On checking, she found a safe, which contained an assortment of jewellery, several medals and RM10,000, missing.
“Also missing was a laptop computer worth RM20,000.”
He said Kheizul’s son informed police of the break-in and a team of officers from Petaling Jaya police headquarters searched the area for clues.
“They found the empty safe dumped in the compound of a nearby vacant house about three blocks away.”
He suspected the break-in was committed by three or four persons as the safe was heavy and the gates of the bungalow were locked.
District CID chief Deputy Superintendent Asri Jamaluddin confirmed the incident and said investigations were on.
