Datuk loses RM1mil

BY KULDEEP S. JESSY

PETALING JAYA: A Datuk holding a high post in the Drainage and Irrigation Department lost about RM1mil when burglars broke into his house in Kampung Tunku.

According to a police spokesman, the burglars managed to get away with more than RM900,000 worth of jewellery, an IBM laptop and RM10,000.

They also made off with his Datukship medal.

The spokesman said police recovered the Datuk’s safe – minus the RM10,000 – from an empty house nearby.

It is learnt that the Datuk was away in the Philippines on official business while his wife was also not around when the burglary took place on Sunday.

“Based on our investigations it is believed that more than one person was involved in the robbery and that they were professionals because they left no trace or evidence behind,” the police spokesman said.

A family member, who did not want to be identified, said that two of the Datuk’s children, aged 19 and 25, and a maid were in the house on the day of the burglary.

He said the maid only realised that the house had been broken into on Monday when she was watering the plants and found one of the locked windows of the house open.

“She immediately alerted the Datuk’s children who then lodged a report at the Petaling Jaya police station,” he said.

Petaling Jaya CID chief Asst Supt Asri Ahmad Kamaluddin said police were investigating the case and urged members of the public who had any information on the burglary to contact the Petaling Jaya or nearest police station.
