When does something cross over from a normal ‘promotion’ into a form of bribery? This is definitely testing the border of what is acceptable.

So he’s created a Malaysian record. Big deal. This trend is worrying. Some one will come along and do it to break this record. Or attempt to do something that no one’s thought of. What’s next? Eating 5 hamburgers in the toilet? I guess the people are also at fault. If there’s no demand for these trivia, then the Malaysian Book of Records would go bust. But I can’t help feeling that we have really gone way overboard!

Look at how many units of the chancellor they’ve sold. At the rate they are going, this model will be their top seller!

Come on, how many car companies blow their trumpet after getting orders for 16 units. This is really embarassing.

I have absolutely no basis for what I’m going to say. If they took a small cut (say, 1%) of this, and divide among themselves, they can easily retire. Of course they still have some catching up to do if they want to beat this.

I don’t remember the ex-PM raising concerns about the huge majority held by the ruling party during his reign. Why is he raising this now? I get the feeling that, just like Senior Minister Lee in Singapore, he’s finding it hard to adapt to retirement. He has created quite a few controversies since he stepped down. And I bet this will not be his last either.

Why are Malaysians constantly trying to prove themselves? Read the latest stunt. This is not only a total waste of taxpayers money, it has created a whole generation of Malaysians who are obsessed with creating the longest, biggest, fattest, fastest just for the sake of creating records. Unfortunately some of these stunts are not good enough for entry into the Guiness Book of Records (which is also getting more ridiculous by the day), merely the Malaysian Book of Records. The icing on the cake must be the equating of this wasteful act with the vision to be ‘towering Malaysians’, uttered by none other than the deputy PM. He has ushered in a sad age for this nation.

of them who has not registered? Most young people are disillusioned with politics, but I hope they realise that by not registering and exercising their rights, they’re giving up an opportunity to change things. I bet the corrupt politicians will start quaking in their boots once this ‘lost generation’ realise how much power they wield!

Now you want to be one. With these requirements, they’ll make a windfall. If only they’d told me earlier. Wonder which “panel” psychiatrist will stand to gain most from this?

It’s only been a year since the 26 Dec tsunami devastated a few countries and took more than 200,000 lives. Let’s pause for a moment and remind ourselves how big a number 200,000 is. To put things in perspective, the world trade centre tragedy ‘only’ took 3,000 lives.

The resilience of the human race is well documented. We often commend ourselves on how quickly we recover from setbacks and carry on with our lives. I still remember that immediately after the Sept 11 2001 attacks, people who were affected say that their lives would be changed forever. They would cherish their loved ones, spend more time doing more meaningful things etc. However, 4 years hence, I wonder how many of these people are already back in the ratrace and have all but forgetten about 9/11. Last year when the tsunami struck, most of us were quick to respond with aid. But a year later, I bet all we remember are the video footages of the giant waves and the victims are conveniently forgotten: “may they rest in peace”.

To progess, we should put events behind us and not dwell on them. However, sometimes, I just wish that we do not forget so readily, and spend more time reflecting on these life-changing events. Otherwise, they’ll just fill up another page in the history book and the lives lost in vain.

Finally, the national airline, MAS, with a new CEO at the helm, has unveiled that it needs RM3 billion for restructuring. See this. I wonder, what do they need the money for? I thought they are just going to sack some slackers, expel some thieves (RM1.5 million for 2 paintings?) and stop flying to certain destinations. Surely none of these require any cash outflow? Or so I thought.
